CityWalk Rajarhat is a 150,000 GSF retail and entartainment project connecting to a 5-star Westin Hotel located in Rajarhat, Kolkata’s new town, one of the world’s largest new urban developments. The project is a complex re-adaptation of an existing structure already under construction. To accomplish this, JRDV’s design draws from the richly diverse architectural traditions of Kolkata that are reinvented in a modern, complex, and compelling way to create a uniquely branded urban place. The project will establish a powerful branded urban identity of its own, with an architecture that addresses the emotional aspirations of this sophisticated and dynamic emerging market. Above all, the project will become an authentic urban place, like “an organized High Street” with its own diversity of styles as part of the complex urban fabric. As such the project will create a timeless framework, allowing a platform for testing and launching new retail and entertainment products that are not presently in the Indian market.
