| Maasmechelen Village is inspired by the architecture of Furness, Richardson, Viollet-le-Duc, Voysey, and Shaw -- architects known for their highly personal styles. The design and development of Phase 1 was concurrent with a master plan of a former coal mine site. The project's multiplicity of building styles creates a rich diversity; a rigorous urban design approach to massing with careful attention to graphics, awnings, storefront windows, paving, and lighting creates smooth transitions between buildings and sub areas.
Phase II of Maasmechelen Village is composed of 22 buildings, which include the academy and docklands thematic sub areas, in line with the global character and array of architectural styles in the entire retail development. This zone opens its end gates at the waterfront along the banks of the river, bringing pedestrian life into the project.
