The combination of internet shopping, discount box retail and the economic downturn has left many retail centers struggling to sustain sales and retail customers – the industry is in crisis-management mode. JRDV has become expert at partnering with owners to find solutions, both short and long term. We bring a deep understanding of retail merchandising, economics and design strategy. Our focus is always on matching the cost/benefits to the appropriate solution to ensure that our interventions are achievable and produce economic outcomes. We also focus on creating longer-term value strategies to ensure that near-term actions support long-term value. Like our clients, we take an asset management approach to creating and managing value.
JRDV’s projects have included replacing large department stores with multiple tenants, reimaging and re-branding centers and transforming public spaces. We have also created strategies for increasing site density and integrating alternate uses including housing, hotels, and offices. JRDV has extensive experience working with city planning departments, redevelopment agencies and regional authorities to manage the entitlement process and to achieve joint public/private project goals.
Customer expectations have irrevocably changed what makes a center successful. JRDV’s retail projects are built around strong city planning elements such as streets, town squares, courtyards, informal pocket parks, sidewalks and pedestrian paseos, no two of which are ever the same. We have developed a unique understanding of how to reposition retail centers relative to the larger trade-area competition; and how to renew the brand.
