Located in downtown San Diego, the East Village Design Center includes a master plan for the adaptive reuse of two historic warehouses into furniture showrooms as well the new construction of two new high-rise residential loft buildings. Together the furniture and residential buildings will define a new neighborhood located immediately east of the new Padres Ballpark and new main library. The master plan uses the proposed "tail-gate park," a surface parking lot being by the Padres, as a both central focus for the project as well as source for shared parking. The historic warehouses have been placed on the National Register of Historical Places. Their unadorned historic warehouse spaces will provide for a dramatic setting for the cutting-edge contemporary home furnishings. Similarly, the residential lofts located above will be contemporary in style, reading as a modern day intervention to complement the historic setting.
