Architecture is an ancient discipline where typologies exist, both as part of a collective
perceptual language and as workable solutions to specific programs. Therefore, any sophisticated solution to a new problem starts with an understanding of how the problem
has been addressed in the past. JRDV starts all projects by collecting historical precedents
from around the world, in both vernacular and formal architecture. These precedents
are drawn from JRDV's vast library of references-on everything from streetscape conditions to historical monuments to technical details. These references are then assembled and compared. JRDV believes originality is derived the hard way: through focused study, intellectually rigorous hard work, and professionalism. The office is not interested in first-blush trendy solutions. Rather, JRDV focuses on thoroughly researched precedents and rigorously worked solutions and details. We don't mind breaking a sweat.
